Good Practices for Protecting Beckton Park Ecosystem
1. Leave No Trace
We provide a rubbish bag that you are invited to use. Otherwise please take all rubbish with you, including food scraps, as even natural items can disrupt the local ecosystem.
Dispose of tissues, wipes, and other personal items in designated rubbish bag
2. Be Mindful of Picking
Avoid unnecessary gathering, to help protect the beauty and balance of the natural environment for everyone to enjoy.
Please follow the guidance of your facilitator when collecting plants, leaves, or flowers to ensure we respect and preserve this space together.
3. Respect Wildlife
Observe animals and insects quietly and when possible from a distance without disturbing them (we understand that children are curious and sometimes want to touch them).
Do not feed wildlife, as human food can harm them and alter their natural behaviors.
4. Stay on Designated Areas
Follow the Facilitators guidance. Some areas may need to be protected.
5. Tread Lightly
Move carefully through the woods, especially around trees and plants.
Avoid damaging tree bark, roots, or any other living elements. We encourage exploration, so check in with facilitators if your child has this urge and we will try to meet this need.
6. Minimize Noise
Notice noise levels - wildlife can be affected if they are too high.
7. Use Natural Materials Thoughtfully
If using natural materials for crafts or activities, ensure they are returned to the environment afterward in a way that doesn't disrupt it.
Avoid taking items like sticks, stones, or leaves out of the park..
8. Follow Facilitator Guidance
Always listen to and follow instructions from facilitators, as they know how to minimize impact on the environment.
Encourage children to do the same and respect the guidance provided.
9. Encourage Eco-Friendly Practices
Bring reusable water bottles, containers, and bags to reduce waste.
Avoid single-use plastics and packaging when packing snacks or meals.
